美國平面設(shè)計協(xié)會（AIGA）從1924年開始舉辦「50佳圖書 | 50佳封面（50 Books | 50 Covers）」比賽，旨在評選出過去一年里在書籍和封面設(shè)計上表現(xiàn)最出色的書，并永久錄入可訪問的AIGA平面設(shè)計收藏檔案庫中。目前該賽事已成為美國平面設(shè)計界歷史最悠久的比賽之一。
2019年度競賽的評委們對每件作品的綜合設(shè)計方式進(jìn)行了評估，包括概念、創(chuàng)新，以及排版、插圖和信息設(shè)計等視視覺元素方面的運用，并于5月19日于AIGA官網(wǎng)公布了2019年度「50 Books | 50 Covers」的獲獎作品。本屆大獎共收到783個來自32個國家的作品，最終82件書籍及封面作品脫穎而出，其中有18件作品同時獲評最佳圖書和最佳封面。

競賽主席Michael Bierut認(rèn)為，好的書籍設(shè)計為可持續(xù)發(fā)展社會建立了好的榜樣，鼓勵人們以充滿激情的方式與世界建立聯(lián)系。他還說：“在一個日益數(shù)字化的世界里，我們很多人都被孤立了，一本精心設(shè)計的書則提供了分享知識和創(chuàng)造共同經(jīng)歷的機(jī)會。”
